Fairleaders & Gypsies

As established specialists in fairleaders and gypsies, we design and build in accordance with DNV-OS-E301. In practice, we go beyond required standards, engineering fairleaders to withstand anchor-breaking loads in the worst storms.

Fairleaders and gypsies built to withstand the most severe elements.

At Whittaker we design and manufacture fairleaders and gypsies in full accordance with DNV-OS-E301. We believe that on an FPSO the fairleaders should be able to withstand chain MBL, while seized, until the turret breaks out.

On fixed FPSOs and semi-submersible floating production platforms where the vessels are moored in one position for upwards of ten years, fairleaders can seize up through lack of exercise. When they are forced to move in a storm or during anchor handling operations, seized fairleaders may be subject to side loads beyond the levels they’ve been designed to withstand.

Our fairleaders are engineered to withstand these side loads at anchor breaking load (MBL), ensuring the mooring system is robust enough for the worst storm.
